The report identifies more than 27 drug candidates in various clinical and non-clinical stages of development.
MRSA is a significant public health threat, responsible for severe bacterial infections such as sepsis and skin infections. Its growing resistance to antibiotics makes treatment challenging, prompting pharmaceutical companies to seek novel therapeutic approaches.
Among the drugs in development are several promising candidates. For instance, Helperby Therapeutics' HY-004B8b aims to restore the efficacy of older antibiotics, while Trellis Bioscience is developing the antibody TRL1068, which disrupts bacterial biofilms. LegoChem Biosciences' Delpazolid (LCB01-0371) is a new antibiotic targeting gram-positive infections.
The report also highlights the efforts of key industry players, including Trellis Bioscience, LegoChem Biosciences, and Aptorum Group. While older drugs like vancomycin and daptomycin remain in use, the need for new, more effective treatments is evident due to increasing antibiotic resistance.
