Chinese lighting manufacturer MT Outdoor Light has released a guide detailing UN38.3 and IEC 62133-2 battery safety certification requirements for rechargeable headlamps intended for the EU market.
Ningbo Mengting Outdoor Implement Co., LTD., operating under the brand MT Outdoor Light, has published guidance for manufacturers exporting rechargeable headlamps to the European Union. The document addresses the necessary battery safety certifications required for market access.
The guide focuses on UN38.3 and IEC 62133-2, two critical standards for lithium battery safety. UN38.3 pertains to the transport safety of lithium cells and batteries, encompassing eight distinct tests. IEC 62133-2 is the international standard for the safety of secondary lithium cells and batteries used in portable applications.
In addition to transport and product safety, the publication outlines the compliance roadmap involving the EU Battery Regulation 2023/1542 and CE marking under the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) and EMC Directive. These frameworks are essential for ensuring products meet EU safety and electromagnetic compatibility standards.
The company highlights that meeting these certification requirements is crucial for Chinese manufacturers aiming to sell rechargeable headlamps, particularly those utilizing common battery types like the 18650 cell, within the EU.
