MultiDimension Technology Releases Low-Power Dual-Axis Magnetic Switch IC

MultiDimension Technology (MDT) has launched the TMR1228D, a dual-axis bipolar latch magnetic switch IC. The device utilizes Tunneling Magnetoresistance (TMR) technology to provide continuous magnetic field detection without the duty-cycled operation found in some Hall-effect switches, enabling improved reliability and faster response times for "always-on" sensing applications.

The TMR1228D operates with a power consumption as low as 1.5 microamperes per axis, making it suitable for battery-powered devices and applications prioritizing energy efficiency. Its high sensitivity of ±5 Gauss allows for the use of smaller magnets and wider air gaps, offering greater design flexibility. The IC is intended for use in smart utility meters, industrial position sensing, and motion control systems.

The dual-axis design features independent detection channels for the X and Y axes, with separate outputs capable of generating industry-standard quadrature A/B signals. This simplifies the implementation of systems for detecting rotary and linear position, speed, and direction. The TMR1228D supports a wide operating voltage range of 1.8V to 5.5V and operates across an industrial temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.

MDT also offers the TMR1222D model, which has operating thresholds of ±17 Gauss, catering to applications that require different magnetic field strengths or configurations. The company, founded in 2010, specializes in the development and manufacturing of TMR magnetic sensors.
