Tesla CEO Elon Musk has asked the company's employees to use Grok AI whenever possible, according to a report by The Information. This directive stems from the lower token costs associated with Grok 4.5 compared to competing AI models.

Previously, Tesla had set a weekly spending cap of $200 for employee AI usage, applicable to products from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google. xAI's Grok model was exempt from this restriction.

Despite months of internal testing and collaboration with xAI product lead Andrew Milich to address usage issues, multiple Tesla engineers reportedly favor Anthropic's Claude for their daily development tasks, the report states.

Furthermore, while xAI recently released its Grok 4.5 model, it ranked ninth overall in comprehensive benchmark scores, trailing behind models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. Its programming capability score was the lowest among all models on the list.
