Musk believes his companies will find better ways to manufacture microchips
Elon Musk stated his companies will likely find better methods for microchip manufacturing, even though he personally does not know how to make them.
Elon Musk expressed confidence that his companies will discover superior methods for manufacturing microchips. While admitting he does not personally know how to produce them, Musk believes his firms' expertise in custom equipment fabrication will lead to advancements in the manufacturing process.
Speaking outside the Tesla Superfactory in Austin, Texas, Musk noted that his companies have experience in building specialized equipment. This, he suggested, gives them an advantage in refining manufacturing procedures compared to competitors. He characterized microchip production as one of the most difficult tasks globally.
Plans are underway for a significant investment in chip manufacturing. Musk is considering the construction of a chip fabrication plant, dubbed Terafab, in Grimes, Texas, potentially through a joint venture involving Tesla, SpaceX, and Intel. The initial investment is projected to exceed $15 billion, and the project has been described as exceptionally challenging.
Musk is committed to tackling the complexities of chip production, acknowledging it may take years. His ambition is to develop a manufacturing process that surpasses existing standards, reflecting a strategic effort to secure critical components for his ventures.
