Musk Reflects on Political Involvement: "Too Deeply Invested"
Elon Musk has spoken about his time involved in Washington's government affairs. He stated that he became too deeply invested in politics, which impacted his primary work.
According to IT Home on July 26, Elon Musk recently discussed his experience working within the U.S. government. Musk stated in a recent interview that his political involvement took too much of his time and energy.
Reflecting on his participation in government affairs on "The Insider" program hosted by The Economist's Editor-in-Chief Zanny Minton Beddoes, Musk said he got "a bit too deeply invested in politics." He mentioned that his initial goal for joining DOGE was to help address the federal deficit.
Musk's initiative, the "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE), aimed to push for spending cuts and increased efficiency within the federal government. His involvement began in early 2025 as a special employee under the Trump administration. However, political disagreements led to public conflicts and impacted investor confidence, causing pressure on Tesla's stock price.
Following his departure from government work, Musk has refocused on his core businesses and technological development, particularly in artificial intelligence. He emphasized the need for cooperation among leading AI companies to mitigate potential risks. Musk stated that even competitors should maintain communication for the benefit of the world, putting aside personal differences.
