Biotechnology firm Nanobiotix has announced the completion of a Phase 1 study assessing its radio-activated nanoparticle, NBTXR3, for patients diagnosed with locally advanced pancreatic cancer (LAPC) or borderline resectable pancreatic cancer (BRPC).

The study was conducted by The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. It involved 22 patients and observed a median overall survival of 23 months from the diagnosis date, compared to historical data of 19.2 months at the same institution. Investigators reported that NBTXR3 was well-tolerated and that the oncologic outcomes observed warrant further investigation in a randomized trial.

Following these results, MD Anderson received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to initiate a new study cohort. This new cohort will evaluate NBTXR3 in combination with standard-of-care concurrent chemoradiation. Patient recruitment for this expanded study is currently ongoing.

Nanobiotix expects to present full data from the completed study at a medical congress in the first half of 2025. The company is developing nanoparticle-based therapeutic approaches for cancer treatment.
