French biotechnology company Nanobiotix has released the first part of its data from a randomized Phase 2 clinical trial. The study investigated the potential of JNJ-1900 (NBTXR3), a nanotherapeutic designed to enhance radiotherapy.

The trial focused on patients with stage 3 inoperable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Data was presented by Johnson & Johnson, the sponsor of the study, at the 2026 European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO) Annual Meeting.

Early findings indicate that injecting JNJ-1900 directly into the tumor is a safe and feasible procedure for patients with stage 3 NSCLC. In the seven patients who completed the full treatment regimen—combining concurrent chemoradiotherapy, JNJ-1900, and consolidation with durvalumab—the overall response rate (ORR) was 85.7%, with a complete response rate (CR) of 57.1%. These results compare to typical CR rates below 5% for the standard of care in this patient group.

JNJ-1900 (NBTXR3) is a first-in-class oncology product consisting of hafnium oxide nanoparticles. It is administered in a single intratumoral injection and activated by radiotherapy. Nanobiotix suggests the mechanism, which aims to enhance tumor cell death and trigger an immune response, could be applicable across various solid tumors and treatment combinations.
