Nanobiotix has released final data from a Phase 1 clinical trial evaluating JNJ-1900 (NBTXR3) in patients with advanced primary cutaneous melanoma that proved resistant to anti-PD-1 therapy. The 24-patient study assessed the feasibility and efficacy of a single intratumoral injection of NBTXR3 followed by stereotactic body radiotherapy and immune checkpoint inhibitors.

The findings, presented at the 2026 ESMO congress, reported a 41.7% overall response rate and a median overall survival of 17.8 months. Researchers noted that the treatment was well-tolerated, with early signals of efficacy observed in both injected and non-injected tumor sites. This suggests the treatment may trigger a systemic anti-tumor immune response, an observation supported by elevated plasma levels of the cytokine IL-1β.

Given that patients with advanced melanoma following multiple immunotherapy failures have historically poor prognoses, the study investigators concluded that these results warrant further investigation. The company expects these findings to serve as a foundation for future randomized clinical trials to validate the therapeutic approach.
