Narodowy Bank Polski addresses leadership mandate and operational continuity
The National Bank of Poland has issued a clarification regarding the regulatory requirements for the Monetary Policy Council, citing the necessity of an active governor for board operations.

Narodowy Bank Polski (NBP) issued a formal statement on October 30, 2026, to address public speculation regarding its governance structure. The institution emphasized that Article 16 of the Act on the National Bank of Poland establishes strict procedural requirements for the Monetary Policy Council (RPP).
According to the bank's communication, the RPP cannot legally function without an appointed governor. This clarification follows circulating reports about potential leadership vacuums, which the central bank indicates could impede the body's ability to conduct official monetary policy sessions or enact interest rate changes.
The regulatory framework cited by NBP underscores the institutional dependence on the governor's office for the validity of central bank decision-making. The bank maintains that adherence to these statutory rules is essential for maintaining stability in Poland’s financial system and ensuring continued operations.
