NASA announces development of X-70 experimental aircraft
NASA has officially added the X-70 Fractal to its X-series aircraft program, establishing a new testbed for aviation technology research.

NASA confirmed the development of the X-70 Fractal, a crewed research platform designed to evaluate emerging aviation technologies. This addition follows a long lineage of experimental aircraft, ranging from the Bell X-1, which historically broke the sound barrier, to the recent X-59 supersonic demonstrator.
While technical specifications remain limited, the agency identified the X-70 as a high-performance, adaptable vehicle intended to serve as a testing environment for future flight systems. The aircraft is designed for a cruising speed of Mach 0.75.
NASA has not yet provided detailed schematics or full performance data, releasing only conceptual imagery to announce the program. The X-70 continues the agency's practice of utilizing specialized testbeds to bridge the gap between theoretical aerospace design and flight-ready implementation.
