National Children's Life Run Stops in Cottbus

In late September 2026, the nationwide Kinder-Lebens-Lauf (Children's Life Run) carried a symbolic "angel torch" across Germany to raise awareness for the situation of seriously ill children and their families. The run included stops at two facilities of Johanniter Unfall Hilfe e.V. in Southern Brandenburg: the "Pusteblume" children's hospice in Burg and the mobile children's and youth hospice service in Cottbus.

On September 27, 2026, the angel torch, accompanied by a motorcycle escort, began its journey from Burg towards Forst. From there, it proceeded to Cottbus, where the local mobile children's and youth hospice service took custody of the torch for its leg of the journey. Manja Bieder, a coordinator for the Cottbus service, emphasized the event's importance in increasing the visibility of children's hospice work and the families it supports.

The following day, September 28, the torch continued its route from Cottbus towards Eisenhüttenstadt, with a stop at the Ambulante Kinderhospizdienst Nora. In Cottbus, the torch's departure was marked by a public neighborhood brunch at the Johanniter service center. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about local operations and volunteering possibilities.

A special presentation featured volunteers from the "Johannitus musicus" project, offering music therapy for children and adolescents dealing with grief. Participants were invited to try musical instruments with therapeutic effects. The event aimed to foster open dialogue and support families facing serious illnesses.
