China's National Energy Administration reported a 60.4% year-on-year increase in highway EV charging volume on the first day of the National Day holiday, setting a new record.

2 October 2026

The National Energy Administration of China announced that on the first day of the National Day holiday, the total charging volume at highway charging stations reached 28.05 million kilowatt-hours. This represents a 60.4% increase compared to the same day last year, setting a new single-day record for holiday periods.

The administration stated that the demand for charging surged during the holiday, and the charging facilities at highway service areas operated smoothly, effectively supporting electric vehicle owners undertaking long journeys.

To ensure sufficient charging capacity, the National Energy Administration plans to continue monitoring and managing charging infrastructure along highways. The Ministry of Transport predicts that the number of electric vehicles traveling during the holiday will be 1.8 times higher than on regular days, with charging demand expected to be concentrated during return trips.
