National Grid Seeks Balance Between Growth and Customer Protection
National Grid has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that growing electricity demand from sectors like data centers benefits customers, while maintaining affordability and reliability.

National Grid, an energy company operating in New York and New England, has emphasized its commitment to balancing the increasing demand for electricity, particularly from data centers and industrial users, with customer interests, affordability, and reliability.
The company's commercial arm, National Grid Ventures (NGV), has joined the White House Ratepayer Protection Pledge, signifying its dedication to responsible energy infrastructure development and customer-focused expansion.
National Grid stated that growth should be enabled in a manner that protects citizens, strengthens the grid, and supports long-term economic competitiveness. The company is actively collaborating with customers, policymakers, and regulators to establish frameworks that safeguard existing customers, maintain reliability, and ensure that the benefits of new investments are broadly shared.
Ben Wilson, President of National Grid Ventures and Chief US External Affairs Officer, stated that growth and customer protection are not mutually exclusive. "We need both," Wilson said. He highlighted that new demands, such as large loads, must strengthen the grid and support economic growth with positive outcomes for existing customers, provided planning and investments are managed correctly.
The company has already invested in solutions, including a strategic partnership with Joulent, to develop contracted power and electrical infrastructure solutions for large load demands. National Grid intends to continue working with stakeholders to support responsible growth and build a modern energy infrastructure.
