National Park Foundation Awards $6.9 Million for Workforce Housing

The National Park Foundation (NPF) announced it has awarded $6.9 million in grants to accelerate and expand workforce housing solutions within 17 national parks across the United States. This funding is intended to advance local housing initiatives for national park personnel, including rangers, staff, volunteers, and partners.

The significant financial support aims to address rising housing costs near park areas and the need for affordable, quality accommodations for park employees. The grants will facilitate the construction of new housing, the improvement of existing facilities, and the development of innovative housing models.

Seventeen national parks nationwide will receive these grants. The initiative seeks to ensure that those working within the national parks have access to safe and affordable housing close to their work sites, which is crucial for the operational continuity and retention of park staff.

NPF has identified housing challenges as a key impediment to the operations of many national parks. By improving housing availability, the foundation aims to enhance the parks' capacity to attract and retain qualified personnel for the future.
