NearLink Standards Become National Recommendations in China
China's State Administration for Market Regulation has approved new national standards for NearLink wireless communication technology. These standards are set to take effect on April 1, 2027.
China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) has approved a new series of national standards for NearLink (星闪) wireless communication technology. The standard series, covering the technology's overall architecture, access, basic services, and applications, will officially be implemented on April 1, 2027.
These new GB/T 48336 series standards represent a key step in elevating NearLink technology from an industry standard to a recommended national standard. They establish the overall technical framework for the system, including interfaces for both Synchronous Low-Latency Broadband (SLB) and Synchronous Low-Power (SLE). The standards also specify methods for device discovery, service quality, and integration with networks like 5G.
Furthermore, the standards address key application scenarios such as audio and video streaming, media control, positioning, and IP transport. The release aims to guide product development, quality control, and market access within the NearLink industry chain.
The adoption of NearLink standards at the national level provides official recognition and technical backing for the technology. This is expected to accelerate the development and widespread adoption of NearLink-based products and applications across various sectors.
