Nel ASA and German technology company Rheinmetall AG have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore joint opportunities in decentralized renewable fuel production. The initiative aims to enhance the security of critical infrastructure and energy independence.

The collaboration will combine Nel's electrolyzer technology with Rheinmetall's Giga PtX concept and systems integration expertise. The goal is to assess scalable, modular solutions for the localized production of low-carbon synthetic fuels. These fuels are intended for defense applications and other critical infrastructure needs.

Rheinmetall has previously expressed intentions to develop solutions for synthetic fuel production as part of its Giga PtX project. This partnership with Nel seeks to align technological capabilities with practical applications within the energy sector.

The MoU opens avenues for pilot projects and future commercialization of the technology, strengthening both companies' positions in the renewable energy and synthetic fuels market.
