Nel ASA Receives Additional Orders for Submarine Electrolyzer Stacks
Norwegian hydrogen technology company Nel ASA has secured new purchase orders from Collins Aerospace for PEM electrolyzer stacks used in submarine life-support systems. The additional orders are valued at approximately USD 7 million.
Nel ASA, a Norway-based hydrogen technology firm, has received additional purchase orders from Collins Aerospace for its proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer stacks. These stacks are designed for use in life-support systems aboard submarines.
The newly acquired orders are linked to naval programs in the United States, the United Kingdom, and France and collectively amount to approximately USD 7 million. This brings the total order intake from Collins Aerospace related to submarine applications to roughly USD 20 million, including a prior USD 12 million order announced on September 29, 2026, and smaller orders earlier in the month. All new orders are scheduled to be booked in the third quarter of 2026.
"These additional orders extend our work across several submarine programs and demonstrate continued demand for our PEM technology," stated Todd Cartwright, Nel's Chief Commercial Officer. "Submarine life-support systems impose demanding requirements for reliability and product lifetime. Our operating track record and established manufacturing capabilities position us well to serve this specialized market."
Deliveries for these latest orders are anticipated to occur during 2027 and 2028. The electrolyzer stacks will be manufactured at Nel's facility located in Wallingford, Connecticut. The company has previously announced similar orders for submarine applications from entities including the U.S. Navy.
