Nel ASA Secures Additional Orders for Submarine Electrolyser Stacks
Norwegian hydrogen company Nel ASA has received additional purchase orders from Collins Aerospace for its PEM electrolyser stacks, used in submarine life-support systems. The new orders are valued at approximately USD 7 million.
Nel Hydrogen US, a subsidiary of Norway-based Nel ASA, has secured further purchase orders from Collins Aerospace for Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyser stacks. These units are designated for use in submarine life-support systems. The newly announced orders, related to U.S., UK, and French naval programs, have an aggregate value of approximately USD 7 million.
These additional orders bring the total order intake from Collins Aerospace for submarine applications to approximately USD 20 million. This figure includes a USD 12 million order announced on September 29, 2026, and other smaller orders received earlier in the month. Nel ASA will book all these orders in the third quarter of 2026.
"These additional orders extend our work across several submarine programs and demonstrate continued demand for our PEM technology," stated Todd Cartwright, Nel's Chief Commercial Officer. "Submarine life-support systems impose demanding requirements for reliability and product lifetime. Our operating track record and established manufacturing capabilities position us well to serve this specialized market."
Deliveries under these new orders are scheduled for 2027 and 2028. The electrolyser stacks will be manufactured at Nel's facility in Wallingford, Connecticut.
