Nelson-Jameson Adds Cold Storage Capacity in California

Nelson-Jameson, a distributor in the food processing industry, has added cold storage and logistics capabilities at its distribution center in Turlock, California. The expansion is designed to optimize operational servicing, enhance inventory levels, reduce transit times, and streamline deliveries for dairy producers across the West Coast.

This project follows a significant cold chain infrastructure rollout at the company's Fairview, Pennsylvania, distribution center earlier this year. The Turlock facility features specialized ultra-low-temperature cold storage maintained at -60°C (-76°F), specifically for cultures used in cheese manufacturing and fresh dairy products. This includes products distributed through the company's relationship with dsm-firmenich.

The localized storage in California addresses logistical challenges of shipping cold-chain products over long distances. Benefits include shorter lead times, reduced product spoilage, and less reliance on third-party carriers. The company also noted reduced dry ice consumption and improved reliability through dedicated delivery routes, aligning with Nelson-Jameson's corporate responsibility strategies.

"This investment in Turlock represents a vital step in aligning our infrastructure directly with our West Coast customer needs," said Brian Hanson, Director of Operations. "By establishing these capabilities in California, we are eliminating transit vulnerabilities, protecting product quality, and ensuring West Coast dairy processors receive the reliable service they count on."

The Turlock expansion is part of a broader nationwide infrastructure growth plan. Nelson-Jameson plans to add culture storage in Jerome, Idaho, in the near future, serving customers in Idaho, Utah, and the Pacific Northwest. All Nelson-Jameson distribution centers operate as state-registered food warehouses adhering to strict food safety standards.
