Neste Oyj has commenced production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at its renewable products refinery located in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Modifications to the facility now enable the annual production of up to 500,000 tons of SAF.
This expansion in Rotterdam increases Neste's global SAF production capacity to 1.5 million tons per year. The company states this is crucial for implementing regulations like the EU's ReFuelEU Aviation initiative and similar mandates that aim to boost the use of renewable jet fuel.
Neste is continuing its strategic investments at the Rotterdam refinery. An ongoing project will more than double the plant's total renewable products capacity to 2.7 million tons annually. Upon completion in 2027, Neste's total global renewable fuels production capacity will reach 6.8 million tons, with SAF accounting for 2.2 million tons. The company also operates SAF production facilities in Singapore and Porvoo, Finland.
