The company announced that over 90% of its renewable products are now manufactured using these secondary materials.
Neste has been utilizing waste and residues for over a decade and is actively seeking to expand their share in its feedstock. Diego Marques, Neste’s Vice President, Feedstock Growth, Renewables Platform, stated the company is investing heavily in exploring currently underutilized waste and residue streams that can be transformed into high-quality renewable products.
The materials include used cooking oil and animal fat waste, originating from various food industry processes. Neste is also investigating streams such as acid oils, brown grease, forest and agricultural residues, and municipal solid waste.
Instead of ending up in landfills or polluting the environment, these waste and residue materials can be refined into renewable fuels and chemicals. They are used in the production of sustainable plastics for everyday items like coffee cups, baby pacifiers, stroller components, car parts, and electronic devices.
Key benefits of utilizing waste and residues include improved resource efficiency, promotion of a circular economy, and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Neste aims to support the transition to a circular economy to help limit global warming.
