Neste plans over EUR 400 million maintenance turnaround at Porvoo refinery

Neste Oyj has announced plans for a major maintenance turnaround at its Porvoo refinery, scheduled to take place between August and October 2026. The company estimates the cost of the operation to exceed EUR 400 million, as it aims to ensure the plant's safety, availability, and competitiveness.

The approximately nine-week shutdown will focus on essential tasks, including statutory inspections, routine maintenance, and asset improvement initiatives. Such extensive turnarounds are typically conducted every 2.5 to 3 years. A significant workforce of around 7,500 people is expected to participate, comprising roughly 1,000 Neste employees and specialists from over one hundred contractor companies, more than 80% of which are Finnish.

Neste assures that customer fuel deliveries will not be affected during the maintenance period. Security of supply is to be maintained through advance production and storage. The Kilpilahti port and the Porvoo distribution terminal will operate normally throughout the turnaround.

The company anticipates a notable increase in traffic in the Kilpilahti area due to the large influx of workers, and special traffic arrangements will be implemented. Neste aims to minimize any disturbances to local residents and other traffic, though short-term flaring and potential noise disruptions may occur during the refinery's shutdown and startup phases.
