Espoo, Finland – Neste Oyj, a global leader in renewable products, has released a summary reflecting on the outcomes of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28). The agreement reached at COP28 is described as signaling the "beginning of the end" of the fossil fuel era, with a focus on translating pledges into real-economy actions.

Neste emphasizes the global nature of the climate challenge, citing sustainability expert John Elkington, who notes the necessity of cross-border collaboration. Elkington also commented on the effectiveness of COP28 President Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber in navigating complex negotiations between transitioning away from fossil fuels and the interests of producing nations.

The company stresses the importance of cooperation between governments and businesses. According to Sami Jauhiainen, Vice President at Neste’s renewable aviation business, the private sector can develop solutions for emission reduction, but global governments must establish markets for these through policies and binding targets.

As a producer of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), renewable diesel, and renewable feedstock solutions, Neste plays a role in driving the transition to renewable and circular solutions. The company advocates for simultaneous emission reductions across all sectors, including hard-to-abate industries like aviation, where Neste offers advanced solutions.

The discussion at COP28 also centered on innovation. Neste highlights its long history of innovation and ongoing research into new raw materials and production technologies, underscoring the need to utilize existing solutions while developing future ones to accelerate the energy transition.
