The recipient universities were chosen based on their pioneering work in distinct yet complementary fields of catalysis research. According to Neste, enhancing catalysis research is crucial for expanding the company's current and future raw material base, particularly by utilizing waste and residue streams.
Neste produces renewable and fossil fuels, alongside solutions for the polymer and chemical industries. Catalysts are essential in refining various raw materials, accelerating and directing chemical reactions to produce high-quality fuels and chemicals. The company highlights processes like hydrotreatment, which removes impurities such as sulfur and nitrogen from raw materials.
These academic donations align with Neste's broader strategy to support national research and development, strengthening Finland's capacity in catalysis. The company aims to increase its renewable fuels production capacity to 6.8 million tons annually by 2027.
