Neste to invest over EUR 400 million in Porvoo refinery maintenance turnaround

Neste Corporation is preparing for a significant maintenance turnaround at its Porvoo refinery, scheduled to take place over approximately nine weeks from August to October 2026. The company's investment in this crucial maintenance project is expected to exceed EUR 400 million.

The primary objectives of the turnaround are to ensure the refinery's continued safety, operational availability, and long-term competitiveness. The scope of work will include essential statutory inspections, routine maintenance tasks, and initiatives to improve plant assets, all of which necessitate a temporary shutdown of refinery operations. Such extensive maintenance turnarounds are typically conducted every 2.5 to 3 years.

This major project is anticipated to involve around 7,500 personnel. Approximately 1,000 of these will be Neste employees, with the remaining 6,500 being specialists from over one hundred different contracting companies. The company noted that more than 80% of the selected contractors are Finnish. Specialized international experts are also expected to join the effort from countries including Germany, Poland, Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands, and the UK.

Neste has stated that fuel deliveries to customers will not be affected during the maintenance period. Security of supply will be maintained through advance production and storage, ensuring uninterrupted sales and distribution. The Kilpilahti port and the Porvoo distribution terminal will operate as usual. The company acknowledges that the turnaround will significantly increase traffic in the Kilpilahti area and that specific traffic arrangements will be published locally prior to commencement.
