Neste to Supply Sustainable Aviation Fuel to Air Canada Flights in Canada
Neste and Air Canada have agreed on the supply of 60,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for flights from Vancouver International Airport. This marks Neste's first SAF delivery to Canada.
Finnish energy company Neste has signed an agreement with Canadian airline Air Canada to supply 60,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The fuel will be used on Air Canada's flights from Vancouver International Airport, beginning in December 2024.
This agreement signifies the first time Neste's Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ will be supplied to Canada. It also represents Air Canada's initial commercial import of SAF into the country and significantly contributes to the airline's target of procuring SAF to cover 1% of its estimated fuel use in 2025.
Neste's SAF is produced from waste and residue raw materials, such as used cooking oil and animal fat waste. Its use reduces greenhouse gas emissions over the fuel's lifecycle by up to 80% compared to conventional fossil jet fuel. The fuel is compatible with existing aircraft engines and fueling infrastructure.
The agreement deepens the existing partnership between Neste and Air Canada. Neste has previously supplied SAF for Air Canada's use at San Francisco International Airport and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Neste stated that promoting the use of SAF also requires policy support to accelerate deliveries.
