Neste to Supply Sustainable Aviation Fuel to Cathay Group Across Three Regions
Neste Corporation and Cathay Group have finalized an agreement for the supply of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to the group's operations in Europe, the United States, and Asia-Pacific. This collaboration aims to scale up Cathay's use of SAF.

Finnish energy company Neste has entered into an agreement to supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to the Cathay Group. The fuel will support the group's aviation operations across three major aviation regions: Europe, the United States, and Asia-Pacific, significantly increasing Cathay's adoption of SAF.
Neste is already delivering blended SAF for Cathay Pacific flights departing from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in Europe and Los Angeles International Airport in the U.S. Additionally, Neste has supplied SAF to Singapore Changi Airport for flights operated by Air Hong Kong, a cargo airline owned by Cathay Group. The SAF is delivered blended with conventional jet fuel into airport fuel facilities.
Kristof Van Passel, Head of Procurement Operations & Sustainability at Cathay Pacific, stated that the partnership with Neste represents a significant step toward decarbonizing air travel and accelerating SAF adoption. He highlighted SAF's current role as the most viable solution for addressing emissions associated with flying.
According to Neste, its SAF can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% over the fuel's lifecycle compared to conventional jet fuel. Neste produces its SAF from renewable waste and residue raw materials, such as used cooking oil and animal fat waste. The company's global SAF production capacity currently stands at 1.5 million tons per annum and is projected to increase to 2.2 million tons by 2027.
