Neste to Supply Sustainable Aviation Fuel to Cathay Group
Neste has agreed to supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to Cathay Group across Europe, the United States, and Asia-Pacific, supporting the airline's efforts to scale up SAF usage.
Finnish energy company Neste will supply its sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to Cathay Group for its flight operations spanning Europe, the United States, and the Asia-Pacific region. This agreement enables Cathay to increase its use of SAF in its aviation activities.
Neste will leverage its global supply capabilities to deliver the fuel. Cathay Pacific is already utilizing Neste-supplied SAF on flights departing from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and Los Angeles International Airport. Additionally, Neste has provided SAF to Singapore Changi Airport for use by Air Hong Kong, a cargo airline owned by the Cathay Group.
"This collaboration is among our multifaceted strategy in accelerating the adoption of SAF within our extensive network," stated Kristof Van Passel, Head of Procurement Operations & Sustainability at Cathay Pacific. He emphasized that SAF is a key element in their decarbonization journey and the most viable solution for addressing emissions associated with flying. Mario Mifsud, Vice President, Renewable Fuels Sales & Trading EMEA & APAC at Neste, added that the company is proud to support Cathay Group's emission reduction goals through its global production and supply capacity.
Neste's SAF is a renewable fuel that offers up to an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions over its lifecycle compared to conventional jet fuel. It is produced from renewable waste and residue raw materials, such as used cooking oil and animal fat waste. The fuel is certified for commercial use and can be blended up to 50% with conventional jet fuel, operating seamlessly with existing aircraft engines and fueling infrastructure.
