Nestlé Explains Environmental Impact of Aluminum Coffee Capsules
Nestlé Deutschland AG addresses consumer questions regarding the use and recycling of Nespresso aluminum coffee capsules. The company highlights aluminum's role in preserving coffee quality and its recyclability.

Nestlé Deutschland AG has issued a statement aiming to clarify the environmental impact of its aluminum Nespresso coffee capsules and respond to consumer concerns.
The company states that aluminum was chosen as the material for the capsules due to its superior ability to preserve the freshness and aroma of coffee. Nestlé emphasizes that aluminum capsules are highly recyclable and can be disposed of through standard collection systems like the yellow bag or bin.
Following recycling, the aluminum is used to produce new products, such as bicycles or frying pans. The coffee grounds within the capsules are utilized as an energy source during the process. Nestlé has also conducted a life cycle assessment, indicating that the carbon footprint of a Nespresso espresso is lower than that of an espresso made with a fully automatic machine.
The company is committed to reducing its emissions across its entire value chain, targeting net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, a goal validated by the Science Based Targets initiative. Furthermore, Nestlé is a B Corp certified company, signifying a commitment to rigorous social and environmental standards and transparency.
