The Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit, held in Vienna during the Global Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF) 2026, underscored the critical role of secure and resilient IP networks for future growth in the artificial intelligence era. The summit convened to discuss strategies for enhancing network security and monetizing services in the face of evolving threats.

Discussions highlighted how AI is amplifying cyber threats, necessitating a strategic approach to integrate security into network architecture from the ground up. GSMA Intelligence released a white paper emphasizing 'Native Security'—embedding security into network elements—and 'defense in depth' for multi-layered protection. The report also warned of future threats from quantum computing capable of decrypting existing data.

The ITU-T SG13 and WBBA launched a joint initiative to build secure and resilient IP networks globally. This collaboration aims to ensure service reliability and continuity in the AI era, while also fostering new revenue streams through intelligent networking.

Huawei representatives emphasized AI's evolution into a network monetization engine, contingent on a secure and resilient foundation. The company also presented its enhanced NG WAN solution. The summit also recognized contributions to network resilience, including an award to Egypt's National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA).
