Net5.5G Summit Highlights Importance of Secure IP Networks in AI Era

The Net5.5G summit in Vienna focused on building secure and resilient IP networks for the AI era. The event emphasized integrating security into network solutions and developing new business models.

15 October 2026

The Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit concluded successfully as part of the Global Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF) 2026 in Vienna. The event centered on the theme "Security and Resilience for Networks, New Intelligent Growth for Operators," addressing the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on cybersecurity and future network infrastructure demands.

GSMA Intelligence unveiled its report on the telecommunications industry's cybersecurity architecture. The report stresses that security must be embedded within network elements from design and manufacturing through to deployment and operation. It also highlighted the emerging threat of quantum computing potentially decrypting stored data, necessitating the adoption of new cryptographic algorithms and quantum-resistant cybersecurity measures.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU-T SG13) and the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBBA) launched a joint initiative, "Build Resilient, Secure IP Networks Together." This initiative encourages global operators to enhance network security and resilience, ensuring service continuity in the AI era and enabling new business monetization models.

Huawei representatives discussed AI's evolution from an efficiency tool to a network monetization engine, presenting their updated NG WAN solution. The summit also featured discussions on strategic roadmaps and best practices from leading operators, recognizing contributions to network security and resilience. The event underscored the global telecommunications sector's commitment to high-quality, secure, and resilient networks for the AI-driven future.
