The streaming giant has announced a film based on the arcade racer Crazy Taxi, an animated Sonic series targeted at children seeking "edge," and a live-action movie for the upcoming RGG Studio game Stranger Than Heaven.
The Crazy Taxi film is slated to be the first project released, though a specific debut date has not yet been provided. The Sonic series is described as being "built for kids who want to feel a little edge," indicating a departure from more child-focused content. Netflix already produces a Sonic series, "Sonic Prime," which has completed three seasons.
Crazy Taxi, originally released in 1999, is known for its fast-paced gameplay where players ferry passengers through a bustling city under time pressure. The adaptation aims to capture the chaotic energy of the original arcade experience.
The live-action movie will be based on "Stranger Than Heaven," a forthcoming title from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the developers behind the Yakuza series. This move signifies Netflix's continued strategy to leverage popular gaming intellectual property for its content.
