Netflix announces Stranger Things prequel series Other Worlds for 2028
Netflix plans to expand its Stranger Things franchise with a 1950s-era live-action prequel series titled Other Worlds, scheduled for release in 2028.

Netflix has confirmed the production of a new live-action expansion to the Stranger Things franchise, titled Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure. The upcoming series is set to debut in 2028 and will explore the franchise's history, predating both the original series and the stage production, The First Shadow.
The project is set in the 1950s, a period prior to the events depicted in the established narrative. Franchise creators Matt and Ross Duffer are returning to oversee the production, while Kate Trefry, a writer who has worked on the original series, has been appointed as showrunner. British filmmaker Joe Wright is signed on to direct the first three episodes of the series.
This expansion represents Netflix's ongoing strategy to leverage its existing intellectual property to maintain subscriber interest. By anchoring the project with established creative talent, the streamer aims to retain the tone of the original series while transitioning into a multi-platform franchise model.
