Netflix Cuts 6% of Workforce Amid Revenue Growth

Netflix is reducing its workforce by approximately 6 percent, impacting around 1,000 positions. The layoffs are concentrated in the company's product, technology, legal, and human resources divisions, according to an internal memo sent to employees.

These cuts represent the largest round of layoffs at the streaming service since 2022. The announcement comes just a week before Netflix is scheduled to release its next quarterly earnings report.

In the memo, Co-Chief Executives Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos stated that the decision is driven by a need to be "disciplined about where we prioritize our people and resources" and to make "focused choices across the business." This strategic reallocation of resources occurs despite Netflix reporting a 13 percent year-over-year increase in revenue for its second quarter, reaching $12.56 billion.

Industry experts suggest these layoffs are less about traditional downsizing and more about a strategic shift in resource allocation. Netflix plans to continue significant investments in key areas while making precise choices across its operations to ensure sustained service quality for members, partners, employees, and investors.
