Netflix reportedly plans up to 800 job cuts

Netflix is reportedly preparing for a major round of job cuts, potentially its largest in four years. According to various media reports, the layoffs could impact up to 5% of the streaming giant's workforce, which translates to approximately 800 employees based on the company's reported staff numbers at the end of last year.

The potential workforce reduction was first reported by Puck News and has since been confirmed by other outlets, including the Los Angeles Times. Netflix has been contacted for comment, and an official announcement could be imminent.

The reported layoffs come amid a broader trend of job cuts within the technology sector. Data from outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas indicated that technology companies announced 165,925 job cuts from January through September 2026, a 54% increase over the same period in 2025. Netflix last underwent significant layoffs in 2022, cutting 3% of its staff.

Netflix's stock performance has lagged this year, with its share price down 22.74% year-to-date, contrasting with the Nasdaq Composite's 17.78% gain. The company's revenue growth forecast for 2026 has narrowed, signaling a shift from its historical rapid expansion. The streaming pioneer previously stopped reporting subscriber growth metrics in 2025 and has reduced the frequency of its viewership reports.
