Netflix Sued Over Stolen Nicolas Cage Film Drive

Netflix has been sued after admitting that an unencrypted drive containing an unreleased 2026 film starring Nicolas Cage was stolen from its premises. The production company, Op-Fortitude, alleges that the streaming giant waited a week to report the incident.
The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday, accuses Netflix of negligence for failing to promptly notify the production company after the drive, identified as containing the film "Fortitude," was taken. Other drives were also reportedly stolen directly from desks within Netflix's offices.
"Someone stole a good amount of drives from our office desks this past week," Sean Berney, director of Netflix Original Film, stated in an email to a representative of Op-Fortitude. This communication allegedly followed ignored attempts by the production company to recover the missing drives.
Op-Fortitude reportedly invested $45 million in the film. The company is seeking damages, citing concerns that the stolen drive contained not only the movie but also other sensitive information. The incident raises questions about Netflix's data security protocols.
