Netflix's Live-Action "Mobile Suit Gundam" Film Completes Production

Netflix's live-action "Mobile Suit Gundam" film has officially completed its principal photography, multiple media outlets have confirmed. The production, directed by Jim Mickle, took place in Australia using Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast.

The film stars Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo as pilots from opposing factions who meet amid a decades-long war between Earth and its space colonies. Their entanglement in an evolving conflict and new threats could shape humanity's future.

"Mobile Suit Gundam," created by Yoshiyuki Tomino, is a seminal Japanese mecha science fiction series that debuted in 1979. The franchise has achieved significant commercial success, reportedly generating nearly $1 billion in 2022 alone. Netflix acquired the rights for an adaptation in April 2021, marking the franchise's first major live-action film endeavor.

Co-produced by Legendary Entertainment and Bandai Namco Filmworks, the film is not a direct adaptation of any single anime work. Instead, it features an original storyline intended to appeal to both long-time fans and newcomers. Principal photography began in April 2026 and concluded in July 2026, with post-production expected to follow. A release date has not yet been announced.
