Netherlands A12 Motorway Closed in July, Travel Times Extended

The A12 motorway in the Netherlands, a significant east-west route connecting Arnhem, Utrecht, and The Hague, will face several days of closure in July, according to ADAC, the German automobile club. Specifically, a section between Arnhem and Utrecht will be closed to traffic heading towards Utrecht from Friday, July 24th, 10 PM, until Monday, July 27th, 5 AM. The Dutch road authority Rijkswaterstaat cites extensive renovation work as the reason for the disruption. Drivers can expect additional travel times of at least 30 minutes, with potential for further increases during peak hours. The A12 is a crucial artery for German tourists traveling to the Dutch coast and western regions. Three diversion routes will be signposted: A50/A1/A30, A50/A1/A28, and A15/A2/A27. The closure falls during the main holiday season, potentially compounding traffic issues. Furthermore, ADAC reports that the Wijkertunnel on the A9 motorway (Amsterdam-Alkmaar) will be closed until August 8th, adding potentially an hour to travel times for those heading to North Sea resorts. The A12 is a vital link for cross-border travel from Germany into the Netherlands. ADAC advises travelers to anticipate longer journeys and check real-time traffic information before departure. The timing of these closures during peak travel periods could lead to significant congestion.
