36 students in Neumünster explored how public bus transport could be designed to be perceived as 'cool' by young people by the year 2025. The project was commissioned by the local transport authority.
Neumünster students designed future bus travel
In Neumünster, Schleswig-Holstein, 36 students from grades 7-10 at the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Schule community school participated in a project focused on the future of public bus transport. The core question was how to design public bus services in Neumünster for 2025 to make them "super cool" and desirable for students.
The project, commissioned by Stadtwerke Neumünster, was facilitated by Consideo GmbH and Projektbue.ro. It aimed to involve young people directly in envisioning improvements and changes to their local public transportation system, encouraging them to think about user experience and accessibility.
The public presentation of the students' findings and proposals reportedly impressed attendees, including state politicians. Following the event, the students were invited to present their results again at the state parliament in Kiel.
A model titled "Bus travel is cool" was developed as part of the project and is available online. Consideo engages in similar school projects designed to foster youth participation in shaping sustainable community solutions.
