Elon Musk's brain-computer interface startup, Neuralink, has experienced a significant valuation increase on the secondary market, with estimates ranging from $29 billion to $42 billion, according to Business Insider. This represents a nearly fourfold increase compared to the company's valuation during its last funding round a year ago.

Market research firm Caplight reports that some buyers have attempted to acquire Neuralink shares at valuations approaching $60 billion. As Neuralink is a private company, these valuations are derived from demand in the secondary market for shares sold by employees or early investors, rather than continuous trading on public exchanges.

The surge in Neuralink's secondary market valuation highlights investor enthusiasm for Musk's ventures in artificial intelligence and robotics. For context, his space exploration company SpaceX is currently valued at approximately $1.6 trillion. Private investors are increasingly willing to pay substantial premiums for opportunities in Musk's unlisted companies.

Founded in 2016, Neuralink focuses on developing brain-computer interface systems. Earlier this year, the company announced that its brain implants had been successfully implanted in 21 patients participating in clinical trials. Musk has stated a goal of completing 1,000 implantations by the end of 2026.

Neuralink's most recent publicly disclosed investment occurred in May, when the Oman Investment Authority announced a strategic investment. The company's latest official valuation and whether a new funding round is underway remain unclear. Neuralink did not respond to requests for comment.
