New Affordable Housing Community Opens for Skyline College Staff

Architecture firm KTGY has announced the grand opening of College Ridge at Skyline College, a mixed-use apartment community located in San Bruno, California. The six-acre development includes 30 affordable apartments designated for faculty and staff of Skyline College.

In partnership with the San Mateo County Community College District (SMCCCD), KTGY designed the community with the district's employees in mind. The need for affordable housing has become essential in the Bay Area, and this project aims to address that need by providing thoughtfully designed and eco-conscious homes.

The development comprises two buildings with a total of 30 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments. These units are intended for college staff requiring affordable housing in a high-cost region. The project has also integrated sustainable design principles, aiming for LEED Silver certification through energy-efficient solutions and on-site electric vehicle charging.

The development also includes 40 market-rate single-family homes, also designed by KTGY. These homes contribute to the financial viability of the overall project and integrate with the surrounding residential neighborhood. This builds on KTGY's previous work, with the firm having been involved in completing 30 similar affordable housing projects in the Bay Area.

Michael Claire, Chancellor of SMCCCD, stated that the increase in affordable housing supports staff and allows them to reside in the community where they work and serve.
