New App Connects Consumers Directly with German Farms

IT professional Katja Winkler has developed a new application called Hofdeal, aiming to strengthen German farmers by connecting them directly with consumers. Winkler, from Oschatz, and her two collaborators created the app to allow customers to reserve products directly from farms. The application helps users locate nearby farms and browse their offerings, including details about the farm and its production methods.

Winkler explained that Hofdeal is more than just a directory. Users can reserve individual products, such as vegetables or flour, through the app. Once a reservation is made, customers receive the farm's contact details to arrange pickup or delivery and payment independently of the app. This setup offers flexibility for both consumers and farmers.

Although the Hofdeal app has only been available for four weeks, it has already achieved significant popularity. Winkler reported that in the last two weeks of active promotion, the app has garnered over 6,000 users and more than 120 farms nationwide. In the state of Saxony, approximately 20 farmers have joined the platform.

The app is free for both farmers and consumers, with the developers aiming to ensure inclusivity regardless of financial circumstances. Both organic and conventional farms can utilize Hofdeal. The application will remain ad-free for the time being, though future advertising is not ruled out.
