New App Detects Presence of AI Smart Glasses

A new mobile application, ZuckOff, has been released by Polish developer Paweł Szydłowski, designed to detect the presence of smart glasses equipped with artificial intelligence. The app scans for nearby Bluetooth signals, specifically identifying those believed to originate from smart eyewear, addressing growing concerns about covert recording.

ZuckOff is capable of recognizing manufacturer signatures from prominent smart glasses brands such as Ray-Ban Meta and Snap Spectacles with high confidence. It can also detect other Bluetooth-enabled devices, including Apple Vision Pro and VistaView, though with lower certainty. The developer is reportedly seeking user submissions for additional models to improve detection capabilities.

The application functions optimally when smart glasses are powered on and actively paired. It provides an approximate distance based on signal strength but does not offer directional information, akin to a radar detector for specific signals. ZuckOff operates without requiring user accounts, analytics, or location tracking.

While not infallible, the app offers a layer of awareness. The developer notes that some smart glasses may evade detection, and the presence of a signal does not confirm active recording. ZuckOff represents a technological response to privacy anxieties surrounding wearable surveillance technology.
