New BMW iX3 generation completes five-year testing for China launch
BMW's new generation iX3 electric vehicle has concluded a five-year development and testing phase. With 400 units accumulating over 2 million kilometers in China, the model is preparing for November deliveries.
BMW is finalizing preparations for the November delivery of its new generation iX3 electric vehicle in China. The model's development and testing spanned five years, involving 400 locally produced test units that collectively covered over 2 million kilometers under diverse Chinese conditions.
The extensive testing program included extreme climate evaluations, with cold-weather trials conducted in Heilongjiang and high-temperature tests in the Xinjiang region. Prototype vehicles underwent rigorous assessment for approximately three years prior to mass production commencement.
The new iX3 features flush door handles with a triple-redundancy safety system. This ensures doors can be unlocked under various circumstances, including potential electrical system failures, by utilizing the high-voltage battery, a 12V backup, and a mechanical override.
While the official CLTC range is rated at 919 kilometers, BMW reports that internal tests saw the 50L variant exceed 1000 kilometers. On a real-world challenge around Qinghai Lake, the vehicle achieved over 800 kilometers despite altitude changes, temperature fluctuations, and complex road conditions.
