New Cultural Tour Explores Traditional Artisans and Performers in Tokyo's Asakusa
A newly launched tour in Tokyo's Asakusa district provides access to geisha, hōkan performers, and local craftspeople, moving beyond the area's main tourist landmarks.

The Asakusa district in Tokyo, long dominated by the foot traffic of Sensō-ji Temple and the Nakamise shopping area, is seeing the launch of a new guided tour experience. The initiative aims to connect visitors with the residents and professionals who actively maintain the neighborhood’s historic cultural practices.
The tour features scheduled engagements with geisha and hōkan entertainers, as well as opportunities to visit the studios of local craftspeople. By moving away from the Kaminarimon Gate landmarks, organizers intend to provide a more localized and educational perspective on Asakusa’s cultural ecosystem.
As Tokyo continues to manage high visitor numbers, specialized tours focused on niche heritage segments are gaining traction. This program, starting in October 2026, reflects a broader shift toward immersive travel experiences in the Japanese capital.
