New Domain Suffixes Applied For, .agent and .agi Appear Popular
ICANN is accepting applications for new top-level domains, with AI-related suffixes like .agent and .agi among the most sought-after. A total of 1,615 applications have been submitted.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is currently accepting applications for new top-level domains (TLDs), the suffixes that appear at the end of web addresses. This marks the first time in years that ICANN has opened the application window for new TLDs.
So far, ICANN has received 1,615 applications from 481 distinct applicants. A significant trend observed in the submissions is the interest in Artificial Intelligence (AI). Ten different companies, including Meta and OpenAI, have applied for the .agent domain. Additionally, seven applicants, including OpenAI, have applied for the .agi domain.
These applications reflect a broader effort to expand the internet's addressing system and provide more options for online identity. The review and approval process for these new domain extensions is now underway.
Other notable applications suggest continued growth in e-commerce and digital services, with several submissions targeting these sectors.
