New iPad mini Case Listing Suggests Design Changes
Apple has listed a new iPad mini smart case with model number A3632 on a French regulatory site, suggesting potential design modifications for an upcoming model.
A new smart case for Apple's iPad mini, identified by model number A3632, has appeared on a French regulatory information website. Tech publication MacRumors reported that this model number does not match any existing or previous iPad mini case models.
Industry analysts interpret this as indirect evidence of a new iPad mini model, likely the iPad mini 8, being released soon. Typically, Apple registers new accessory model numbers when there are significant changes to a device's physical design, such as dimensions, camera cutouts, button placement, or magnetic connectors. The discrepancy suggests the next iPad mini will feature design alterations.
Previous leaks and rumors have pointed towards substantial upgrades for the iPad mini 8. These are anticipated to include an OLED display, the A20 Pro chip, 12GB of RAM, enhanced water resistance (IP rating), a repositioned horizontal front camera, and a new speaker system. Connectivity updates such as Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, alongside a new cellular modem, are also rumored.
Apple is expected to unveil new products in the near future. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that Apple has invited media to an event in Los Angeles on October 28th, where the iPad mini 8 is anticipated to be announced along with redesigned MacBook Pro models and new iMacs. The new iPad mini is likely to maintain its existing price point, though the inclusion of a more expensive OLED screen could lead to an increase.
