New Jersey American Water Graduates 61 Students from Utility Workforce Program
Since its 2021 launch, New Jersey American Water’s Water UP! program has prepared 61 individuals for careers in water and wastewater operations.

New Jersey American Water has reached a milestone with 61 graduates completing its Water UP! workforce development program since its inception in 2021. The initiative was established to address a persistent shortage of skilled labor in the water and wastewater utility sector by providing vocational training and field experience.
The curriculum focuses on the technical skills required to operate complex utility infrastructure, ranging from treatment plant operations to distribution system maintenance. As the utility sector faces a demographic shift with many experienced workers reaching retirement age, companies are increasingly moving toward direct training pipelines to ensure operational continuity.
By providing a pathway to industry certification and employment, New Jersey American Water aims to stabilize its local talent pool. The program concludes its fifth year of operation, maintaining a focus on building a sustainable workforce capable of managing essential public services in the region.
