New Members Appointed to DBU Board of Trustees

The German federal cabinet has appointed six new members to the Board of Trustees of the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU). The appointments are effective May 20, 2026, bringing new expertise to the environmental foundation's oversight body.

The newly appointed members include Beate Baron, head of industrial policy at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, and Bundestag members Jakob Blankenburg, Silke Launert, Carsten Müller, and Dennis Rohde. Christine Wilcken, head of the water management and marine protection division at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, also joins the board.

These appointments strengthen the board's capacity to guide the DBU in its mission to promote environmental protection projects. The diverse backgrounds of the new members, spanning government ministries and legislative bodies, are expected to offer broad perspectives on environmental policy and implementation.

Concurrently, board member Steffen Bilger, a member of the Bundestag, resigned his position effective May 21, 2026. Professor Kai Niebert continues as chairman of the Board of Trustees, supported by vice-chairs Carsten Müller, Professor Katharina Reuter, and Christine Wilcken.
